Laura Cox Piano

I am an experienced pianist and newly established teacher of piano working from my home in Ben Rhydding, Ilkley. I work part-time in a local secondary school and have school age children myself.  I am qualified to Grade 8 Piano and have a current DBS certificate. My key aim is to motivate and enthuse pupils to play the piano and to develop more general musical skills. Learning piano is, of course, a goal in itself but the ability to read music and the development of aural skills will give any child a deeper appreciation of music and an amazing head start if they wish to learn another instrument.

Beginners lessons are usually loosely structured around a graded music book (I like John W Schaum's piano course), but I use a variety of other resources as well and there will be plenty of opportunity for incorporating favourite songs and developing musicianship skills in our lessons. I like to use a keyboard as well as a piano in beginners lessons which is really helpful for introducing chords and rhythms and making even the simplest pieces sound amazing. 

For most pupils a half hour lesson weekly works well but please let me know if you have any other requirements.  I have a Kawai digital piano that is excellent for teaching beginners and more advanced pupils alike as well as a Casio keyboard.
